Q: When Did Drinking And Cooking Become A Good Idea? A: Ten Shots Into The Night! Blogging for books review of The Drunken Cookbook

I have mentioned before that I don’t really drink. When was younger I use to drink whenever I could and wore out my partying days really quick. So n I am more of a social drinker. I guess I realized its funnier washing others get completely plastered and make asses of themselves than being the one making an ass out of myself.
I picked out The Drunken Cookbook by Milton Crawford, author of the hungoevr cookbook, from blogging for books because my significant other (Timothee) does enjoy drinking when he can. The stories I could tell you about him and food when he is drunk! To keep it short and sweet, I have completely banned spaghetti when he is intoxicated.
So I pick up this book and the first page I turn to is a picture of a cross made out of words that pretty much tell you “If you can’t figure out how to read this…. stay the hell out of the kitchen!” It goes on to describe the different levels of intoxication and what types of recipes to stay away from.
Including in this book are 42 amazing recipes that honestly sound nothing you cold create in a drunken state at 4 a.m. b rather something you might find in a nice restaurant. Some of which are Spanish Style Fried Garlic Prawn Baguettes or Stuffed Grilled Mussels.
Now I’m not entirely sure how to rate this book. I mean, do I get completely hammered, try to cook something, possibly get second or third degree burns and then rate it? Or can say that visually the book is appealing to the eye with its redish-orange cover, adorably drawn characters, and drunken humor as well as some yummy sounding recipes. Book review: Rebels by Jill Williamson ( Safe lands Trilogy)

bout the Book:

In this third book in the series of fantasy/dystopian novels from award-winning author Jill Williamson, three teens must try to hold on to their values amidst the subjugation and lies of the government.

In this final novel of the Safe Lands series by Jill Williamson, Mason and Omar discover the true meaning of Liberation-a secret the Safe Lands have long kept from their people-but find they are trapped in the low lands with this crucial information. Meanwhile, Levi is forced to turn his attention elsewhere when his new wife, Jemma, is captured and becomes the Safe Land’s new queen. His only choice to save her may be to take up the role of undercover vigilante that Omar began, leading the rebels in their quest to overthrow the government. But will that be enough to expose the Safe Land’s lies and bring freedom to the people? And will they even want it if it comes?

About the Author:

Jill Williamson is a novelist, dreamer, and believer. Growing up in Alaska led to love books, and in 2010 her first novel, By Darkness Hid, won the Christy Award. She loves working with teenagers and gives writing workshops at libraries, schools, camps, and churches. Jill lives in Oregon with her husband and two children.

I didn’t get the opportunity to read the first two books in the series but after reading this I bought eBook copies and loved loved loved the entire series! I’m on this dystopian kick and even though it wasn’t as good as Divergent series it in my opinion was better than the maze runner series! To all you dystopian lovers out there… get them before they get to hot!

Reading with mom

When my mom and I grew closer, we realized that we had more in common than we had originally thought. Reading was among those interests. Her and I loved taking a trip to my aunt’s bookstore, Crosspoint Christian Books ( ) and walking down the aisles searching for something that caught our eyes.
For me it was always Ted Dekker’s newest book and  my mother always went with something along the lines of Christian romance novels. The only thing was she had to get the large print books due to poor eyesight.
Eventually I got the privilege of reading to her because her eyes were getting worse. So we swapped Lifetime Movie Network 24/7 for reading together whenever the opportunity arose. I remember in the middle of reading, she would stop me and tell me a story relating to something we were reading.
I received Becoming Bea by Leslie Gould from Bethany House reviewers program and devoured it, but occasionally I would stop and think about what story my mom could have told me about her life.
Becoming Bea was a beautifully told story about a young Amish girl trying to find out if love or friendship is more important to her. Below is the Amazon buying link as always!

Taxidermy, Art and the art of taxidermy ~ blogging for books, book review: Crap taxidermy by Kat Su

Honestly I’m not sure what made me pick this book, maybe I wanted a change of scenery but I got some great laughs.
After ordering books I usually do some searching to check out the author and see if I can get some sort of back story. I found out that the author actually started on tumblr collecting and sharing pictures of horrible taxidermy.
This was such a fun, little, photo book! Full of images of taxidermy gone wrong, you can’t help but laugh at most of them, and shake her head at a few. The very first image you see is of an overly excited fox that looks like he recently stepped out of a tumblr meme, followed by an equally cheerful lioness who looks happy to show you her vast martial arts movie collection. What’s really great is that it doesn’t focus solely on the tragic looking mounts that must have been created by either the blind or inexperienced, but also sneaks a glance into the world of weird and taxidermy art.
This book would be great for anyone who needs a laugh or that hunter pal for the next time he wants to take in that prized buck to the local taxidermist!
