OMG OMG OMG! Thats the only way to explain how i feel right now. After a grueling three days i have finally finished The Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard and Holy Balls I am in LOVE! Now I have said before and will again, I hate spoiler alerts but i am writing this while trying not to tell you everything that happens in this book! Let me break it down for you!
Graceling meets The Selection in debut novelist Victoria Aveyard’s sweeping tale of seventeen-year-old Mare, a common girl whose once-latent magical power draws her into the dangerous intrigue of the king’s palace. Will her power save her or condemn her?
Mare Barrow’s world is divided by blood—those with common, Red blood serve the Silver- blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. Before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own.
To cover up this impossibility, the king forces her to play the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks everything and uses her new position to help the Scarlet Guard—a growing Red rebellion—even as her heart tugs her in an impossible direction. One wrong move can lead to her death, but in the dangerous game she plays, the only certainty is betrayal.
Now I was a little confused at first because this seems like Kings and Queens era of time but they do have modern technology. I was slightly thrown off but got over it… Its a book… who cares right!? The second thing… Every time i read the main characters name i kept wanting to read it as Bone Marrow instead of Mare Barrow lol. Aside from that there was never a dull moment in this book for me. And the ending… OH MY SWEET BOOK GOD! I fell in love with every single character, Bad or good, and couldnt put the book down to save my life! The only thing i regret is finishing it so quickly because now I have to wait like, you know, forever, for the next book to come out! Great read and a strong 5 stars from me!
