Long over due book review!

Okay… don’t hate me but I have been away for a while… I know, I know, how dare you right!? I have had so much happening mentally i just couldn’t be around. So i have a Blogging for Books book review for every one and I wasn’t that excited about reading this after starting it. The book is called A Fifty Year Silence By Miranda Richmond Mouillot. Now I am a huge fan of reading about other peoples history and that is what originally drew me into the idea of this book. This is the synopsis I read prior to selecting this book:

A young woman moves across an ocean to uncover the truth about her grandparents’ mysterious estrangement and pieces together the extraordinary story of their wartime experiences

In 1948, after surviving World War II by escaping Nazi-occupied France for refugee camps in Switzerland, the author’s grandparents, Anna and Armand, bought an old stone house in a remote, picturesque village in the South of France. Five years later, Anna packed her bags and walked out on Armand, taking the typewriter and their children. Aside from one brief encounter, the two never saw or spoke to each other again, never remarried, and never revealed what had divided them forever.

A Fifty-Year Silence is the deeply involving account of Miranda Richmond Mouillot’s journey to find out what happened between her grandmother, a physician, and her grandfather, an interpreter at the Nuremberg Trials, who refused to utter his wife’s name aloud after she left him.  To discover the roots of their embittered and entrenched silence, Miranda abandons her plans for the future and moves to their stone house, now a crumbling ruin; immerses herself in letters, archival materials, and secondary sources; and teases stories out of her reticent, and declining, grandparents.  As she reconstructs how Anna and Armand braved overwhelming odds and how the knowledge her grandfather acquired at Nuremberg destroyed their relationship, Miranda wrestles with the legacy of trauma, the burden of history, and the complexities of memory.  She also finds herself learning how not only to survive but to thrive – making a home in the village and falling in love.

With warmth, humor, and rich, evocative details that bring her grandparents’ outsize characters and their daily struggles vividly to life, A Fifty-Year Silence is a heartbreaking, uplifting love story spanning two continents and three generations.

This book is just not as interesting as the title suggests and i think that the author could have done a much better job at writing it. But I have to give credit where credit is due, Despite the lack of seemingly promised revelation/resolution, the book is an interesting, portrait of two very strong-willed individuals whose very strength in surviving 1940s France as Jews is also their fatal flaw. When the author is exploring her grandparents, their histories and their fraught relationship, she is at her best. But she spends quite a bit of the book focused on herself, as if she is unable to develop her own identity without first fleshing out theirs. These sections come across as quite self-absorbed and are a bit of a chore to plod through. The author has had the privileges and advantages of wealth and security, so her struggles to “make a home” out of her grandparents’ ruined house in France comes across a bit like an elite Peace Corps volunteer who both takes her rugged assignment seriously, but also has the luxury to leave the rough life and kick back with her friends.

Now would i recommend this book? Yes to those who are completely enthralled in Jewish history and heritage but no to anyone who needs a quick read! I received this book free from blogging for books in exchange for an honest book review! And as always the buying link will be included but keep reading my fellow bookworms!

I am a huge believer in the fact that laughter is the best medicine! Now when I start a book I think hmm I could use some crime or maybe something sad! But i started reading multiple books at one time so i had something to choose from. You don’t live the same day over and over again… unless you actually do and in that case, well, I’m sorry because your life sucks balls. The point I’m trying to get to, do you want to read a sad story 24/7? NO! You will eventually get to a point in time where you want something new, fresh and interesting because if you aren’t feeling it that day, are you really reading with the utmost interest? So if you aren’t, are you obtaining everything you can from the words your attempting to read? Occasionally I read something with a little humor that way it keeps things exciting.

My latest blogging for books came in the other day and I have already finished it. I picked The Marauders By Tom Cooper. Now when I read the synopsis for this I was drawn in for one reason… I know it sounds bad but even though I don’t do drugs I am very intrigued by the mind of someone on drugs. As weird as that seems it is kind of hard for me to explain without sounding even crazier so we will leave it at that. Now when I started this I jumped in quick and couldn’t stop so I can say it was a great book I just wish it was more of what I thought it would be.

I laughed a lot in this book so you could go from being serious one minute to your family laughing at you while your in the bathroom laughing at something else. Don’t judge me! We all read in the bathroom… YOU KNOW IT! I think the biggest reason I got so excited was because it seemed like a sick twisted version of The Goonies! I am a die hard Goonies fan and can proudly say that I do the truffle shuffle at night before bed just to make my fiance laugh… Try it… it really works! Lol anyway I will leave the book synopsis and buying link below but I would definitely check this book out! As always my lovely bookworms, HAPPY READING!

***The Marauders Synopsis***

When the BP oil spill devastates the Gulf coast, those who made a living by shrimping find themselves in dire straits. For the oddballs and lowlifes who inhabit the sleepy, working class bayou town of Jeannette,  these desperate circumstances serve as the catalyst that pushes them to enact whatever risky schemes they can dream up to reverse their fortunes. At the center of it all is Gus Lindquist, a pill-addicted, one armed treasure hunter obsessed with finding the lost treasure of pirate Jean Lafitte. His quest brings him into contact with a wide array of memorable characters, ranging from a couple of small time criminal potheads prone to hysterical banter, to the smooth-talking Oil company middleman out to bamboozle his own mother, to some drug smuggling psychopath twins, to a young man estranged from his father since his mother died in Hurricane Katrina. As the story progresses, these characters find themselves on a collision course with each other, and as the tension and action ramp up, it becomes clear that not all of them will survive these events

Revelations By Pamela Daniell Book Review!

Okay so like i said in my last post i was contacted on Goodreads about giving a review of a couple of books and i started Revelations By Pamela Daniell. First off, it took me longer than i would have liked to finish this but it wasnt becasue of the book itself. I have had a busy week and ya know life unfortunatly gets in the way of reading… Damn adulthood!
I honestly really did like this book and i think it is because it reminds me of a mix between mortal instruments and percy Jackson with a splash of supernatural in the mix. You have the hunters and the hunted, the nephillum and not. When you pick up this book and you start it you really dont want to put it down. It starts with a short chapter that kicks the whole story off in what feels like a proper description of how relationships between heaven and earth would be! Now if you are a huge fan of Cassanda Clares writting i would suggest this book because it gives you a different take of angels and demons without completely destroying all faith in writers! Lol
The book itself is not long at all! Containing a total of 236 pages, it is a very quick read but at the same time you feel like it lasted longer only because you want it to! I look forward to reading a ton more from Pamela and i encorage you to do the same! You will fall in LOVE with Jenna! (The heroin)
Below are the synopsis and amazon buying page as always!

Random blog post from a random blogger for random blog followers!

So I have had a lot going on lately and I realized after speaking with a friend of mine that I haven’t posted in a while… So I am here and have a few things to say….

Big news: 1. I have reached over 100 followers here on wordpress (round of applause) So a big thank you to all of you amazing followers for making me feel like I have hit a milestone I never thought would happen! 2. I had a job interview yesterday but I will get into that a little later. 3. You are all amazing and 4. I have had a few new books to add to my collection!

~ Amazing Followers for my amazing blog!~

So I currently have 105 followers and I couldnt be more excited! When I first started blogging I thought ” Man I am going to be at this a while before I start getting anywhere”, and even though that has proven to be true I hit 100 followers before I though it would sooooo YAY!!!! lol! My most dedicated follower has come to be one of my favorite fellow bloggers and it kinda makes you stop and think about how small this world really is. As a blogger you connect with fellow bloggers or people with questions and you know that you at least have one thing in common. You both either blog or you are both either into the same types of things.

Well that’s how my relationship started with Miss Stephanie of The Readers Oasis. Now I came to the conclusion that yes we are both bloggers but we are both also book obsessed! I also found out that not only are we both about the same age but that we have very similar lifestyles. And even though she lives in a very busy city, and I in a very small town she displays so many of the same characteristics as me and that alone makes her pretty awesome! If you haven’t had the opportunity yet to follow her please go wander on over to her blog and take a look at some of her posts because you just might get to know her the way I do and I am sure you will like her just as much if not more! ~ You Are All AMAZING~

Since I have started THMH I have come in contact with amazing writers, bloggers, fans and great giveaways and I would love to do the same on my blog! Just a heads up to all of you… I am hoping and praying that in a few months I will be able to get up about 20-30 authors to do some giveaways and if i can I would like to hope that whoever does win anything that you would kindly give any and all feedback for each author, if they are your favorite author or you liked or disliked their work. Now if that goes well and doesn’t completely drain anyone I would like to do a bigger giveaway in December with either all of the books I have reviewed or 60 different authors! I mean who wouldn’t love to win free books from amazing writers!

~Blue Collar Woman~

Like i stated at the beginning of this post I had a job interview yesterday. Now this is a hard subject for me because I haven’t been employed for a while now. I had posted something on my Facebook about my interview and I can honestly say I was scared to see responses. Most of the content I share on Facebook doesn’t get much attention and I am okay with that. But yesterday I was amazed to see that 30 people liked the post alone. I was scared however because I didn’t want one of my family members to ask what business the interview was for. My family does not consist of bad, stuck up people. It is comprised of strong, dedicated individuals who have made so much of themselves through hard work and dedication. My family has created their own businesses and its hard for me to let them know that their 25 year old sister, daughter, aunt, granddaughter or cousin could only be receiving a job working at Taco Bell. I was lucky that no one did ask and I felt like I had so much support from everyone yesterday but while I was in bed last night I just had this feeling that if my family knew they would be disappointed that that is as far as I have made it in life. I’m hoping to hear back from someone soon so until then I am sure I will feel this way. Stupid feelings.

** Orhan’s Inheritance By Aline Ohanesian **

I just got this yesterday and started it as well! I won it in a LibraryThing giveaway and completely forgot to expect it. However, this book is not available to the public yet but make sure to get your pre-order on and soon! Release date is April 7th of this year so be on the look out for it!

Synopsis:

When Orhan’s brilliant and eccentric grandfather Kemal—a man who built a dynasty out of makingkilim rugs—is found dead, submerged in a vat of dye, Orhan inherits the decades-old business. But Kemal’s will raises more questions than it answers. He has left the family estate to a stranger thousands of miles away, an aging woman in an Armenian retirement home in Los Angeles. Her existence and secrecy about her past only deepen the mystery of why Orhan’s grandfather willed his home in Turkey to an unknown woman rather than to his own son or grandson.

Left with only Kemal’s ancient sketchbook and intent on righting this injustice, Orhan boards a plane to Los Angeles. There he will not only unearth the story that eighty-seven-year-old Seda so closely guards but discover that Seda’s past now threatens to unravel his future. Her story, if told, has the power to undo the legacy upon which his family has been built.

Moving back and forth in time, between the last years of the Ottoman Empire and the 1990s, Orhan’s Inheritance is a story of passionate love, unspeakable horrors, incredible resilience, and the hidden stories that can haunt a family for generations
